Day of the Dead Party NYC 2026: LUNA, From Rooftop to Lounge

The weekend's last event starts in the afternoon on a Brooklyn rooftop and carries a tradition with real weight. Here's how LUNA's day-to-night Sunday works.

Halloweekend NYC · Updated October 15, 2026 · 4 min read

Halloween ends at midnight on Saturday. On Sunday the mood changes. The weekend's last event isn't another 10 PM costume party. It starts in the afternoon, on a Brooklyn rooftop, and it carries a tradition with real weight.

The short answer: LUNA: Day of the Dead takes place on Sunday, Nov 1, 2026, from 2 PM to 2 AM at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge – Harriet's Rooftop & Lounge, 60 Furman St, Brooklyn. It is 21+, it moves from the rooftop in daylight to the lounge after dark, and tickets are on Eventbrite.

A tradition, not a theme

Día de los Muertos is not Mexican Halloween. It's a tradition rooted in Mexico for remembering family and friends who have died, observed around Nov 1 and 2. Families set up ofrendas: altars with photos, candles, marigolds and a loved one's favorite food. Calaveras are everywhere, and they're affectionate, not frightening.

A Day of the Dead party in New York can honor that. A few ways to be a good guest:

  • Celebrate, don't caricature. Leave sombreros, serapes and fake mustaches out of it.
  • Keep sacred things sacred. An ofrenda is a place of memory, not a prop or a photo backdrop you build for laughs.
  • If you paint a calavera, mean it. Careful lines, flowers, color. Treat the face as a tribute.
  • Bring someone with you, in spirit. A marigold in your lapel or hair for a person you're remembering is a quiet, fitting gesture.

Three acts, one Sunday

LUNA's twelve hours fall naturally into three parts. This isn't a run of show. It's how the light and the day will change around you.

Act one: afternoon on the roof

The weekend's only afternoon event begins at 2 PM on a rooftop, in daylight. If you were out on Saturday, this is your gentle re-entry: no 10 PM start, no rush. Come as you are, or come as you planned.

Act two: the light goes

The clocks go back an hour at 2 AM that morning, as daylight saving time ends. By the clock, dusk arrives about an hour earlier than it did on Saturday. On the Brooklyn waterfront, facing Lower Manhattan across the East River, that change is the center of the day. Starts in the sun. Ends under the moon.

Act three: into the lounge

As the night comes in, LUNA carries on into the lounge at Harriet's and runs until 2 AM. It's the last word of the weekend, and it lands at a very different pace from the nights before.

Who Sunday suits

  • People who skipped the late nights and want one event of the weekend with an afternoon start.
  • Groups who did Saturday and want a slower, more considered finale.
  • Anyone who wants to mark the Day of the Dead on Nov 1 itself, in company, rather than letting the weekend end with Halloween.

Dressing for a twelve-hour day

  • Finish for daylight. Afternoon light is unforgiving. Blend calavera edges carefully and set the paint well.
  • Bring the night layer. A long coat or tailored jacket for later, chosen to match the look.
  • Shoes for a long day. Twelve hours is twelve hours.
  • Palette: marigold orange, black, cream, deep florals. Gold accents work in both lights.

Sunday logistics

  • Getting there. LUNA is at 60 Furman St, on the waterfront at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Plan your route from wherever you spent Saturday, and plan the trip home before you set out.
  • The next morning. It runs until 2 AM, and Monday is a working day for most people. You choose how long you stay.
  • ID. LUNA is 21+. Bring valid photo ID.

Making it the end of your weekend

LUNA pairs naturally with Saturday's Heaven & Hell at Eden (10 PM – 5 AM, Midtown) for Halloween and the Day of the Dead back to back. Or open the weekend with Thursday's Dead Disco at PUBLIC Hotel and bookend it with two rooftops. The rest of the weekend is on the events page.
